Anxiety. Probably the most common of all complaints that I hear coming into my office as a hypnotist and confidence coach in the Washington D.C. area. Anxiety is running rampant. Especially in the new year. People are setting expectations for themselves while at the same time fearing it might not happen for them. What kind of goal setting is that? Setting goals out of fear that it might not work. This is nothing more than acting on a level where there is a deep-seated belief that whatever it is, can’t happen for them. And so people are going about their lives, their goals, and hopes and dreams in a state of fear and anxiety. And for a lot of people, this feeling is pretty normal. In fact, it’s been around pretty much their whole life.

For some people it makes itself present when trying to go to sleep. Others, when they panic and look at their weight on the scale. For some men and women, it shows up in their dating lives and continues to drive amazing relationships away. These were ALL things that I struggled with for what seems like forever. In fact, I never even really understood the driving force that is anxiety.

The one major difference between people who are successful in life and those who are not, is one common habit that successful people all share. And that is curiosity. It was at the age of 22 for me that I got curious as to why I was struggling with binge eating, and others were not. Then at 26 years old, why I felt powerless in my relationships. And it was that curiosity that drove me to research and learn about what was in the gap between who I was, and who I wanted to be. Successful people STUDY success. Which can mean something different to everybody.

And what it came down to, was not that there was something “wrong” with me. Or that I was “different” or “unlucky”. These are all terms people who feel powerless over their lives use to describe their circumstances. What my research, testing, and trying revealed was that there was a missing component on the inside. Again, nothing wrong with me. Even though I felt like a reject the majority of my life. But was a lack of consciousness. A lack of self-awareness and situational awareness. And this is why people who struggle with internal conflict, continue to struggle without finding peace. Because you can’t find consciousness in a pill or some short term tactic. You can’t find it in a relationship, in food, or any other distraction. You can only discover it within yourself and by yourself.

But before you dismiss this as some “woo woo”, “mystical”, “airy fairy” bullshit, why not get curious and hear me out. Besides, if you are reading this, you are most likely struggling with anxiety or some unresourceful emotion. And why not try something you haven’t tried?
